1006 Cold Drawn Nail Making Iron Wire 1-5.5mm
1. Product Introduction
Cold drawn wire (nail wire) is made from low-carbon steel wire rod and undergoes a series of rigorous cold working processes (primarily including pickling, phosphating, and drawing) to produce a smooth or galvanized steel wire. Its core purpose is to transform the relatively soft and low-strength hot-rolled wire rod into a wire with higher strength, higher hardness, precise dimensions, and excellent surface quality through cold plastic deformation, meeting the production requirements of high-speed automated nail-making machines.
It is a key intermediate product in the metal products industry, specifically used to manufacture various types of standard round nails, gun nails, and coil nails.
2. Characteristics
High Strength and Hardness: Thanks to the cold work hardening effect, its tensile strength and hardness are significantly increased compared to mild steel wire rod. This gives the resulting nails sufficient rigidity and bending resistance, allowing them to be driven smoothly into objects without bending.
Precise and Uniform Dimensions: The cold drawing process uses dies to strictly control the wire diameter, with tight tolerances. This is crucial for high-speed nail making machines, ensuring smooth feeding and consistent nail shank dimensions, reducing production errors and scrap.
Smooth Surface Quality: The drawn surface is smooth and clean, with a low coefficient of friction. This reduces die wear during the nail making process and ensures a smooth, easy-to-use appearance.
Excellent Processing Properties:
Forgeability: Despite the increased strength, it maintains excellent cold heading properties, allowing it to be efficiently forged into nail heads in the nail making machine's dies.
Machinability: The nail making machine's cutter cuts it cleanly, creating a sharp nail tip. Diverse Product Range: Various treatments are available depending on the intended use:
Smooth Nail Wire: Directly used to produce standard round nails.
Galvanized Nail Wire: Hot-dip or electro-galvanized after drawing, used to produce galvanized nails with high rust resistance requirements.
3. Applications Manufacturing Various Nails Common Round Nails: Most commonly used in timber construction, renovation, and packaging. Coil Nails: Specifically designed for use with nail guns, for efficient applications such as flooring, pallet construction, and roofing. Shot Nails: Used with nail guns to drive directly into hard substrates such as concrete and steel. Special-Shaped Nails: Examples include threaded nails and drywall screws (some low-end models).
Other Minor Uses: Provided that mechanical properties are met, these nails can sometimes be used to manufacture other common metal wire products requiring strength, such as certain types of wire mesh and hoops.
Cold-drawn wire (nail wire) is a typical product derived from low-carbon steel wire rod through further processing and value-added processing. Through the cold-drawing process, it precisely acquires all the properties required for nail manufacturing—strength, hardness, precision, and surface finish—making it an indispensable specialized raw material for the modern, efficient nail-making industry.
